My mum had all but given up hope of becoming a grandmother.
I am her last surviving child and at the age of 36 I was single. Then I met Andy.
This photograph was taken when my mum first saw her grandson, Presley. I love the way you can see she is beaming, without even seeing her face. She desperately wants to touch the sleeping baby, but doesn't want to wake him, so she gently places her hand on his blanket. It is a tender moment that made me cry with joy.
This photograph was posted as part of the Sticky Fingers Gallery. This week's prompt is joy.
I can just feel her desperation at wanting to hold him, I would want to too. Yes definitely Joy. x
ReplyDeleteLovely! You're right, she looks so happy, even from the back!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful photo! You're right, I can really see the smile on her face despite the fact her back is to the camera. Gorgeous, you've made me cry xx
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you watch 'Friends' but this reminds me of the episode where Joey says you can totally see whether someone is smiling by the back of their head. It turns out he was right! What a lovely photo!
ReplyDeleteMy mum is much the same. She has other grandchildren, but Moo is the first she has lived locally to, and can see frequently.
ReplyDeleteShe beams every time she seems her. I ring the doorbell and mum comes out searching for the baby - practically runs to the door!! And if Moo's napping, and you hear the slightest noise my mum is all "should I go and get her"!
You can totally see her beaming from the back! Utter joy.
ReplyDeleteHow utterly fabulous that the back of your mum's head can tell such a lovely story!
ReplyDeleteYou're right I can so see her big grin from here! x
What a beautiful moment. And yes! I love that you can see just a hint of the way her eyes are crinkling with emotion at seeing her grandson.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous x
That's lovely. Amazing that you can see her complete joy without even having to see her face.

Deer Baby, I'm glad you can see it too :-)
ReplyDeleteTara, I'm sure my Mum will be pleased you can only see the back of her head, she hates all photographs of herself! x
Josie, I was worried that no one else would be able to tell how big her grim was :-) x
Hot Cross Mum, yes, I suppose I hadn't really studied it before. I've always loved the photograph though.
